What Er3
actually means.

The Volta modulates its flame to hold the temperature you set. Er3 appears when the chamber climbs past 500°C (932°F), and Fontana's explanation is a valve that is not modulating the flame as it should, so the burner keeps firing harder than asked.

What to do when Er3 shows on the pizza oven

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Fontana Forni's own guidance for Er3 on its pizza ovens. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Hold the power button for three seconds to switch the oven off, then close the valve on the propane cylinder.

02

Keep people and pets back while the oven cools, and do not pour water into the chamber or onto the floor stones.

03

Note the temperature you had set and how long the oven had been heating when Er3 appeared, so the technician can compare it with the valve's behavior.

04

Book a visit before using the oven again; Fontana's fix is checking the valve wiring or replacing the valve.

What not to do

Er3 is not a mistaken reading from an unplugged probe, which shows Er1. It is also the opposite of Er4, which reports a chamber that stays too cool.

Questions
about Er3.

Can I clear Er3 myself?
Hold the power button for three seconds to switch the oven off, then close the valve on the propane cylinder. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Is Er3 on my Fontana Volta dangerous?
It means the chamber got hotter than the oven is meant to run, so treat it seriously: switch off, close the tank and let it cool with people kept back. The oven should not be used again until the valve has been checked.
Can I set my Volta lower to avoid Er3?
That does not fix it. Er3 points to a valve that is not turning the flame down, so the oven can overshoot at any setting. The valve and its wiring need testing.
Why did my Fontana Volta show Er3 after a long preheat with the door shut?
Fontana asks you to preheat with the door closed, so the door alone should not push a healthy oven past its limit. When Er3 follows a normal preheat, the valve is the suspect named in the manual.

Still showing Er3?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code copied as shown, the model and serial from the rating plate, and a note on whether the oven still lights, heats or moves its belt. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your oven the same day.
