What Er4
actually means.

After lighting, the Volta expects its chamber probe to see the temperature rise. If the reading stays under 43°C (110°F) for more than five minutes, it shows Er4. Fontana's cause is a probe that is no longer in its proper position inside the cooking chamber, so it is reading air or metal away from the heat.

What to do when Er4 shows on the pizza oven

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Fontana Forni's own guidance for Er4 on its pizza ovens. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Hold the power button for three seconds to clear the code and switch off.

02

When the oven is cold, check whether the probe inside the chamber has been pushed back, bent or pulled from its mount.

03

Before the next try, watch the flame icon: it should turn steady within ten seconds, which tells you the burner itself is lit.

04

If the probe has moved and cannot simply be set back in its mount, book a visit to have it repositioned and secured.

Still there?

It usually turns into pizza oven thermostat and control repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

Er4 does not report an empty tank; gas running out during cooking shows Er6. It is also not the missing-probe message Er1, which means the probe cannot be read at all.

Questions
about Er4.

Can I clear Er4 myself?
Hold the power button for three seconds to clear the code and switch off. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
My Volta flame is lit but it still shows Er4. How?
Er4 is about what the probe reads, not whether there is flame. A probe knocked out of its position can sit in a cool spot and report under 110°F while the burner is running.
Can cold weather cause Er4 on a Fontana Volta?
Fontana's listed cause is the probe position, not the weather. A healthy Volta with a properly seated probe should pass 110°F well within five minutes of lighting.
How does the Er4 probe on a Volta get moved?
Usually by a peel, a pan or cleaning inside the chamber. Fontana's fix is to put the probe back in its original place and secure it with its screws.

Still showing Er4?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code copied as shown, the model and serial from the rating plate, and a note on whether the oven still lights, heats or moves its belt. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your oven the same day.
