What Open
actually means.

Marra Forni's gas and wood-gas brick ovens read the chamber temperature through a thermocouple wired to the control box. When that circuit is open, because the thermocouple is unplugged, its wire is broken or the sensor has failed, the display shows the word Open instead of a temperature. Marra Forni's first check is that the thermocouple is plugged into the control box.

What to do when Open shows on the pizza oven

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Marra Forni's own guidance for Open on its pizza ovens. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Switch the oven off at its main knob or switch.

02

Without opening the oven console or the gas console, look where the thermocouple lead meets the control box and see whether the plug has been knocked or pulled out; seat it only with the oven off.

03

Switch the oven back on and check whether the display now shows a temperature.

04

If Open stays on the display, book a visit to test the thermocouple and its wiring.

What not to do

Open does not mean the oven door is open or that the dome is exposed; it is a word for an open sensor circuit. It is also not the burner lockout, which happens when the flame fails to prove and is reset by cycling the main switch.

Questions
about Open.

Can I clear Open myself?
Switch the oven off at its main knob or switch. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can my Marra Forni oven hold temperature while the display reads Open?
No. The control uses the thermocouple reading to run the burner against the set point, so without it the oven cannot be held at a cooking temperature. Keep it off until the thermocouple reads again.
Why did Open appear after the Marra Forni oven was cleaned or moved?
Cleaning around the facade or moving a mobile or rotator oven can tug the thermocouple lead out of the control box. That is why Marra Forni's first step is simply to check the plug.
Does Open mean the thermocouple in my Marra Forni oven is bad?
Not always. A loose plug or a broken wire gives the same word as a failed thermocouple, so the lead is checked and the sensor tested before it is replaced.

Still showing Open?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code copied as shown, the model and serial from the rating plate, and a note on whether the oven still lights, heats or moves its belt. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your oven the same day.
