Pizza oven
repair cost,
band by band.
Bands rather than prices, because the same repair costs differently on a freestanding unit and on a built-in. What does not change is the order — the cheap causes are also the common ones — or the rule that decides repair against replace.

A pizza oven is priced after it has been fired and looked over.
These four steps compare pizza oven repairs with each other; none of them is a figure for your oven. A floor that will not brown may be a weak burner, a drifting thermostat, a cracked stone or an oven that was never given time to preheat, and a pilot that dies may want a thermocouple or a new valve; nobody can tell which over the phone. Your oven is checked cold, lit or switched on and watched before any figure is given. You hear the cost first, parts go in only after that, and the choice is always yours.
The bands, job by jobWhen you call, ask what the pizza oven visit costs and whether it comes off the repair bill.
The figure for your oven is given on site, after it has been checked, and no part is changed without your yes.
If an old or badly damaged oven is not worth the repair, you hear it plainly, with nothing charged beyond the visit.
What a repair
usually costs.
Set the repair against what a new pizza oven of the same kind would truly cost you once it is delivered, set on its base or counter, connected to gas or power, cured or commissioned, and, in a pizzeria, the nights it is not baking. For a masonry dome the math nearly always favors repair, because the dome, its base and its finish are the expensive part and damage is usually local. Burners, thermocouples, igniters, door springs and a cleaning are small next to any new oven, and belts, blowers and thermostats are usually still worth it. It tips the other way when a steel shell or chamber has rusted through, the insulation has collapsed, or the parts for an older model are gone; then the technician writes out both sums and the decision is yours.
| Repair | Relative cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pizza oven burner cleared or replaced, spark electrode, hot-surface igniter or spark module | low to moderate | Opening an air shutter and resetting an electrode gap is the small end of this job. A new igniter or spark module is a step up, and a full burner for a deck or an outdoor oven, fitted and its flame set, sits at the top. |
| Thermocouple, pilot assembly, flame rod, gas safety valve or regulator | low to moderate | A thermocouple or a pilot tube, leak-checked afterward, is modest. A flame rod with its ignition module comes next, and a safety valve on a deck oven or a hybrid dome is the larger part of this work. |
| Hearth bricks reset, floor stone replaced, or dome and arch cracks packed and sealed | moderate to highest | A single new floor stone in a gas oven or a few reset hearth bricks is the lighter end. Packing several dome cracks and sealing the shell is higher, and relaying a whole hearth with its curing fires is the biggest job on this page. |
| Thermostat calibrated or replaced, temperature probe, timer, controller board or display | moderate | Recalibrating a capillary thermostat costs little beyond the visit. A new thermostat or probe is in the middle, and a controller board or display for a conveyor or rapid-cook oven is the dearest part here. |
| Deck oven heating element, contactor, terminal block or deck stone | moderate | A contactor or a tightened terminal is the small end. One element or one deck stone sits in the middle, and several elements and stones across a stacked oven make the fuller job. |
| Conveyor belt shortened or replaced, sprockets, chain, drive motor, gearbox or speed control | moderate | Removing links and setting tension on a sound belt is the lighter work. Sprockets and a chain come next, and a drive motor, gearbox or speed board, or a whole new belt for a long tunnel, is the top of the band. |
| Impingement blower motor, bearings or wheel, cooling fan, filter or air fingers | moderate | A new cooling fan filter and a clean of the fingers is the small end. A cooling fan or blower bearings are a step up, and a complete blower motor with its wheel is the largest part in this group. |
| Oven door, hinges, springs, gasket, heat shield, chimney cleaning or cap | low to moderate | A chimney brushed from below or a door spring changed is modest. A new gasket set or a heat shield sits in the middle, and a replacement door with its hinges, or a new cap and spark screen, is the fuller job. |
| Full cleaning of burners, floor, fingers and flue, with a gas leak check and a draft test | lowest | Cleaning one oven and checking its gas, flame and draft is the smallest job listed. A worn part found along the way is quoted as its own repair, and nothing is replaced before you agree. |
What the diagnostic
visit covers.
The first visit decides what the repair actually is. The fee, and whether it is credited against the repair, is said when you book, before anyone comes out.
The diagnostic visitWhat the oven did and what changed heard, and the oven, its base or counter, its cover or canopy and its connections looked over.
The gas supply, regulator and connector leak-checked, and the pilot, igniter, sensor and burner watched through a light-off.
The floor, dome, door and chimney draft read cold, then elements, thermostats, the belt, blowers and any code tested where the oven has them.
A written sheet for the oven: each worn or failed part, the work it needs and its cost, or a plain word that the oven is not worth repairing.
What moves
the price.
Five things decide where in its band a repair lands. None of them is known for certain until a technician has seen the pizza oven.
The typesBackyard, masonry dome or pizzeria oven
A countertop gas oven can be worked on in an hour and moved if needed. A masonry dome is repaired where it stands and often needs curing fires afterward. A deck or conveyor oven in a pizzeria is heavy, often stacked, and usually has to be worked on around business hours.
Gas, wood, hybrid or electric
Gas ovens bring valves, pilots, thermocouples and a leak check into every visit. Wood ovens bring masonry, chimneys and drying time. Electric decks and conveyors add elements, contactors, motors and boards.
Which part gave out
A cleaning, a thermocouple, an electrode or a door spring sits at the low end. Burners, valves, thermostats, deck stones and belts are a step up. Dome and hearth rebuilding, controller boards and blower motors are higher.
Water, heat and how hard the oven works
An outdoor oven left uncovered through a wet season often has damage in its floor, insulation and shell together. A pizzeria oven that runs every night wears belts, springs and thermostats far faster than a weekend oven.
Make, model and parts
Common thermocouples, igniters and deck stones arrive quickly. Imported dome sections, controller boards and parts for older conveyor ovens may need ordering, and that can decide the question on its own. Send a photo of the rating plate ahead and we look up the parts before the trip.
Not every pizza oven
breaks the same way.
An outdoor gas pizza oven sits on a counter or in an island and bakes on a stone floor heated by a gas burner; a wood-fired or hybrid oven holds its fire under a refractory dome, sometimes with a gas burner added; a deck oven stacks stone decks heated by gas or electric elements behind steel doors; and a conveyor or rapid-cook oven moves pies through a heated tunnel on a belt, or bakes them fast with forced hot air. Which one is yours?
All pizza oven types
Outdoor gas pizza oven
A stainless pizza oven on a counter, a cart or set into masonry, fired by propane or natural gas under a stone floor and a low insulated dome.
Wood-fired pizza oven
A refractory dome over a firebrick or cast hearth, fired with wood and often a gas burner too, with a chimney, a door and thick insulation around it.
Commercial deck oven
A pizzeria's stacked steel oven with stone decks, heated by gas burners or electric elements, each deck with its own door, thermostat and controls.
Conveyor and rapid-cook pizza oven
A tunnel oven whose wire belt carries pizzas through hot air jets, and the countertop rapid-cook ovens that bake a pizza in minutes.
