Pizza oven repair in Aventura.

Aventura's tower terraces with shared gas ovens and its canal-side homes with private domes face the same enemy, salt carried off the water, and a pizza oven beside a dock needs its door seal and burner looked at far more often than one inland.

What Aventura does
to a pizza oven.

Aventura took its name from a remark by the developers of its first condominiums about the adventure ahead, began building in the early 1970s and became a city in 1995.

Wilma, in October 2005, flooded high-floor condos, sent walls bursting into neighboring units and left the city without electricity.

The yacht Monkey Business was docked at Aventura's Turnberry resort, now a JW Marriott, during the Gary Hart and Donna Rice affair that helped end Hart's 1988 presidential bid.

The city formed its own police department in 1997.

Tower living

A gas pizza oven on a high terrace catches crosswinds that blow straight into its open mouth and push the flame off the burner, so a visit up there checks the oven's placement, its wind shelter and the gas supply before any part is judged.

Seasonal houses

Someone keeping watch over an empty seasonal house can do the oven a favor by lifting its cover after heavy rain and looking for standing water on the floor or a gas smell at the shutoff; if either turns up, the oven stays unlit until a technician has looked.

On the water

Salt spray from the ocean or a bay settles on a pizza oven's steel door, hinges and flue, and pitting starts within a season, so near salt water the oven is rinsed with fresh water once cool and its door and chimney cap are the first parts inspected.

When a pizza oven
cannot wait in Aventura.

In Aventura as anywhere, these four put whoever stands at the oven's mouth, and the building around the flue, at risk, and they mean the gas or the power stays off until we arrive: a gas smell at the oven or its supply line, flame escaping the mouth or showing behind the panel or up the chimney, a hot electrical or burning smell, and smoke that fills the room instead of leaving by the flue.
