A stainless outdoor gas pizza oven on a stone counter on a patio, a pizza oven with a wide low mouth and a blue gas flame rolling along the back wall under its dome, a golden pizza sitting on the stone floor inside, the pizza oven clearly the subject, plants softly blurred behind, daylight, seasonless.

Alfresco pizza ovens,
specifically.

Alfresco's Pizza Oven Plus (AXE-PZA) is a stainless gas oven with two separate heat sources: a ceramic infrared burner under the hearth stones and a tube burner behind a ceramic log at the back. It comes as a countertop unit, a built-in model and on a cart, and its always-on hot surface ignition means the oven needs steady 120-volt power to keep burning.

What is particular
to Alfresco.

We service the Alfresco Pizza Oven Plus as the AXE-PZA countertop model, the AXE-PZA-BI built-in and ovens on the AXE-PZA-CART, plus the older ALF-PZA. Alfresco also sells the ARTP-PZA under its Artisan name with its own manual and parts list, so the serial plate decides what we bring.

Two burners doing two jobs

The infrared hearth burner sits under the stones and heats the floor; the log burner at the back throws flame over the pizza. When the top browns and the crust stays pale, or the reverse, we check each burner on its own before blaming the stones.

Ignition that stays lit on purpose

Spiral hot surface igniters glow the whole time a burner is on, ready to relight it after a gust of wind. That also means a power cut closes the safety gas valves within half a minute, so an Alfresco that shuts off by itself may be losing power, not gas.

An infrared burner that hates water

The ceramic panel of the hearth burner is damaged by water, and Alfresco says never to wash the hearth stone while it sits in the oven. A burner that glows in patches after a hose-down or a hard rain needs to be checked before the oven is used again.

Insects in the burners

Alfresco warns that spider and insect nests can send gas out the front of a burner, where it can ignite behind the control panel. Yellow flames with a gas smell, uneven heat or popping are the signs it lists, and all of them mean the oven should stay off.

Parts

Alfresco keeps two AXE-PZA manuals, one for serial numbers up to 17-99999 and one from 18-00000 on, so the serial decides which parts book we work from. Hot surface igniters, the infrared burner, the hearth stones and the halogen oven lamp are the parts we order most.

Repair or replace

Igniters, a burner, the hearth stones, the oven lamp or a blocked orifice are straightforward repairs on an Alfresco. Heat or flame damage inside the control area is the case where we look hard at the cost of repair against a new oven.

Questions about
Alfresco pizza ovens.

Why do the igniters in my Alfresco pizza oven keep glowing after it lights?
That is the design. The spiral hot surface igniters stay on while the burner runs so they can relight it if wind or a drop in gas puts the flame out. A glow on its own is nothing to fix.
My Alfresco pizza oven shut off by itself. What happened?
If power is interrupted, the safety gas valves close within 10 to 30 seconds, and the oven starts again once power returns. Look at the GFCI outlet and the cord before you suspect the gas supply.
Can I clean the Alfresco hearth stone with water?
Not while it is in the oven. Liquid can reach and ruin the infrared burner below, so Alfresco has you burn food off on high heat, then lift the cooled stone out and brush or vacuum it.
How long should the Alfresco hearth burner preheat?
Alfresco asks for 15 minutes on MAX before cooking. If the oven is still short of heat after that, the gas supply, the regulator and the burner ports are the next things to look at.
