La Jolla Shores lies next to Scripps Pier, close to a cluster of small shops, homes and restaurants. ## What La Jolla does to a pizza oven. To draw visitors to the beach, the early railway to La Jolla built a bath house and a dance pavilion. Every La Jolla restaurant receives a letter grade from the county, and the grade card has to be posted near the public entrance during business hours. Under that county system an A means an inspection score of 90 to 100, a B means 80 to 89, and a C, at 79 or below, is a failing grade. [All of San Diego](https://pizzaovenrepair.center/locations/san-diego/) ### On the water A masonry dome near salt water breathes in damp, salty air, and salt crystals forming inside its render push the surface off in flakes, so a dome by the sea is best kept under a breathable cover and sealed with a coating made for refractory. ### Custom-built pizza ovens Specified patios often pair an imported dome with a local burner kit and a chimney from a third maker, and parts are ordered from each model plate, since two ovens that look alike may take different burners and floor tiles. ### Seasonal houses At a seasonal house a pizza oven may go months without a fire, time enough for rain to soak the dome and birds to nest in the flue, so the first visit back clears the chimney and dries the refractory before a full bake. ## A visit in La Jolla. In La Jolla as anywhere, these four put whoever stands at the oven's mouth, and the building around the flue, at risk, and they mean the gas or the power stays off until we arrive: a gas smell at the oven or its supply line, flame escaping the mouth or showing behind the panel or up the chimney, a hot electrical or burning smell, and smoke that fills the room instead of leaving by the flue.
