Ike Sewell and Ric Riccardo opened the first Pizzeria Uno on the Near North Side in 1943, and the restaurant claims to have originated deep-dish pizza. ## What Near North Side does to a pizza oven. Sewell added Pizzeria Due one block north of the original in 1955. Gino's East baked deep-dish pizza at 162 East Superior Street, a block from the Magnificent Mile, from 1966 until 2000, and returned to a new building on the same spot in 2006. Branches of the McCormick family, of reaper and publishing fame, built so many mansions near Rush and Erie Streets that the area was once called McCormickville. [All of Chicago](https://pizzaovenrepair.center/locations/chicagoland/) ### Tower living A gas pizza oven on a high terrace catches crosswinds that blow straight into its open mouth and push the flame off the burner, so a visit up there checks the oven's placement, its wind shelter and the gas supply before any part is judged. ### Tight patios and small shops Small pizzerias squeeze a deck oven and a conveyor into a kitchen barely wider than the ovens, and with no room behind them heat and grease settle on the controls and blower motors, so their cooling paths are cleared on every visit. ### Custom-built pizza ovens Specified patios often pair an imported dome with a local burner kit and a chimney from a third maker, and parts are ordered from each model plate, since two ovens that look alike may take different burners and floor tiles. ## A visit in Near North Side.
